The computer is unresponsive to attempts to power up the device.

The device won’t be able to receive power if the power adapter is not functioning properly. If the device is plugged in correctly and receiving power then the charge light will be on. If the charge light is not on when plugged in, then it is likely that the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.

If the computer loads to the BIOS and will not load the operating system, it is likely that the hard drive or CPU has failed. If this is the case, consider replacing the hard drive or CPU.

Computer RAM is used to store information that your computer needs quick access to. Faulty RAM will prevent your device from booting. if the device is missing a portion of its original RAM capacity or no longer boots replace the RAM.

The computer freezes up and becomes unresponsive.

When this device is running a program that uses a lot of resources it slows down to accommodate the complex processes. The device will often require extra time to process everything at once.

Windows Task Manager allows users to view what programs are using what resources on the device. Consider using task manager to close poorly behaving programs.

If the laptop has problems when attempting to use a demanding program such as AutoCAD, Photoshop, or high graphics games, then the computer might not have the required hardware to operate the program.

The laptop overheats after a short time of use causing it to slow down or power off.

Dust and other types of debris can collect in your computer’s vents preventing airflow and causing overheating. Cleaning the vents will restore airflow to the device.

Running multiple apps and programs at the same time can cause your computer to generate more heat.

If your fan is making loud groaning noises or simply won’t turn on at all, you most likely have a faulty fan and it should be replaced.

The laptop disconnects from wifi on its own and won’t reconnect

Wifi may be turned off in the network setting of the device. Some settings like “Airplane Mode” automatically turn off wifi and need to be disabled before wifi access can be restored. Sometimes wifi is enabled but no network is connected. Consider altering the devices network settings

If the device is using drivers that are out of date or for a different device, then the device won’t be able to connect to a network. Drivers can be changed in Device Manager.

If the device is in a different room than the wireless network router, the device could have trouble connecting to the wifi network. Consider moving the device to a different location.

If the wifi card is faulty then no amount of software changes will be able to connect the device to a network. Consider replacing the wifi card if possible fixes through software have been exhausted.

Some of the keys on the keyboard don’t work when pressed making typing difficult and frustrating.

If the keyboard is dirty it may prevent keys from registering or cause them to stick. Cleaning the keyboard may fix this.

If the keyboard is clean and the keys are not registering then it’s likely that the keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.

The clock on the computer can be set and used while the computer is turned on, but when it’s turned off the computer no longer keeps time.

If the device is using drivers that are out of date or for a different device, then the device won’t be able to keep time. Drivers can be changed in Device Manager.

The laptop has a small battery that keeps the power going to the clock when the device is turned off. If the device isn’t keeping time and it’s not a driver issue, then the clock battery will likely need to be replaced.

The device is fully functional when plugged into the power adapter, but shuts off after a short time when unplugged.

The device won’t be able to receive power if the power adapter is not functioning properly. If the device is plugged in correctly and receiving power then the charge light will be on, indicating that the device is drawing power into the battery. If the charge light isn’t present consider replacing the power adapter

If the charge light isn’t present, but the computer turns on while on power, or if the computer has an abnormally short battery, then the battery is probably faulty. At this point consider replacing the battery.
