Introduction
Step 1
LaCie Rugged Disassembly
- After disconnecting both cables, turn the device with the brand downside. One of the sides of the rubber protection can be bent to make space to remove it from the centerpiece.
- Now you can place the orange rubber protection aside, as you proceed with the metallic box, here seen at the right of the picture.

Step 2
- The box is held together by three interlocking tabs on each side. A sticker covering the middle tab warns: WARRANTY VOID IF BROKEN. As the LaCie Limited Warranty Policy lasts for five years, and this device is older than that, there’s no need to worry.
- Now you can separate the top cover with confidence. It is loose, and does not hold any other piece.

Step 3
- Here the device can be seen with the front cover detached.
- You can raise the short red SATA cable, at the left, with the three power cables, to disconnect the hard drive, in this case a Samsung HM500JI model.
- The bottom cover can be detached in the same way as the top, so rests exposed the plastic frame holding the PCB and cables.

Step 4
- Here lies the spinning hard drive, which can be replaced by an SSD, and the PCB.
- This picture shows the HDD and the front metallic plate, which bears a sticker with the same serial number.
